Business Update from the Board of Education

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETINGS

June and July, 2013

Karen Colton, Speech Pathologist, resigned from Ida to take a position at the Intermediate School District. The position is posted and the administration will be interviewing candidates in July.

The 2013 budget is projected to have a one year deficit of $367,098 leaving the Ida Public Schools with a fund equity of $3,684,341. Therefore, the fund equity as of June 30, 2013 is approximately 28% of expenditures.

The Board of Education approved the General Fund Budget for 2014. Revenues are projected at $12,643,313 while expenses are expected to be $13,282,995 for a yearly deficit of $639,682. The end-of-year fund equity is projected at $3,044,660.

The Capital Projects budget, Technology budget, Cafeteria budget, and Recreation budget are all in good shape with healthy fund balances.

The Board of Education approved the installation of 17 video surveillance cameras for the elementary school. The system will be installed this summer for a price of $20,063.33. Once installed, all 3 buildings within the district will have very good video coverage.

The Board of Education meeting dates were set for the 2013-2014 school year. They are posted on the window outside the Superintendent’s Office and on the district website:  www.idaschools.org.

Ida Public Schools participates in the Monroe County Wide Schools of Choice Program. Students from outside our district boundaries make up approximately 17% of our student population. Ida has the largest Schools of Choice population in the county!

Sandra Steinke, Middle School math teacher, and Ann Crosby, High School technology teacher, have decided to take a leave of absence for one year.

The Board of Education approved the elimination of four positions within the district:  Elementary School Hearing Impaired Teacher, High School Hearing Impaired Teacher, Middle School/High School Special Education Teacher and a 7^th Grade Regular Education Teacher.

The remaining portable classrooms will be demolished this summer. Dustin Jones Construction provided the low bid for the project.
