HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING
December 10, 2012

Thank you Mr. Sinclair for assisting Mark Mathe from the Mannik and Smith group while they were evaluating the sanitary sewer system in Ida. Mr. Mathe recognized Mr. Sinclair for his assistance using WeatherBug’s online archives.

Special recognition was given to Mrs. Zeichman for her nomination for the Teacher of the Year award. Mrs. Zeichman does a great job!

Congratulations to the boys cross country team. They earned honorable mention academic all-state team honors. The girls cross country team really made their mark by earning 1st team academic all-state honors. The girl’s team grade point average is 3.95. Members include Ashley Sorge, Libby Heil, Alexa Brososky, Linnea Vicari, Kayandra Orwig, Garrett Madden, Jarrod Sawasky, Jeremy Hendzel, Kevin Head, Cody Dixon and Logan Monaghan. Ashley and Garrett also received individual academic all-state honors.

The Ida Elementary School has been designated a Reward School by the Michigan Department of Education. It is ranked in the top 5% of schools in the State. Congratulations to the entire elementary staff and thank you for doing a great job!

Mrs. Waldron will be chaperoning an Eighth Grade Class Trip to Washington D.C. next school year. Hopefully, students and parents will embrace this opportunity and participate in the trip. All costs for the trip will be the responsibility of the parents but several fundraisers will be scheduled so that students will have an opportunity to raise money and minimize trip costs. Our goal is to offer a middle school trip to Washington D.C. regularly so that all students have the opportunity to tour the nation’s capital.

The Board of Education passed a resolution stipulating that Ida Public Schools meets 7 of the 8 Best Practices as defined by the Governor. The district will now receive approximately $75,000 in additional revenue for the 2013 budget year.

Once approved, the meeting minutes are posted on the district web-site at www.idaschools.org.
