Anti-Bullying Task Force

February 26, 2013

Meeting Minutes

 

     Members present:

      Doug Lovell, Tom Dykstra, Tammy Sargent, Jeni Proudfoot and Chris Horney

1.     Reviewed and approved the October 23, 2012 meeting minutes.

2.     Heard a brief Rachel's Challenge update.

3.     Reviewed and discussed at length current disciplinary data. Agreed that the data presented could serve as baseline data for measuring future efforts.

4.     Discussed bullying issues/trends in grades7-12 and the need for a focused effort.

5.     Determined the following action should be taken before the next meeting.

a.     Post current meeting minutes on the Ida PTA Facebook page.

b.     Post bully reporting information on the Ida PTA Facebook page. Bully reports may be made to:

·  Tom Dykstra at dykstra@idaschools.org

·  Doug Lovell at lovell@idaschools.org


c.     Tom Dykstra will solicit ideas for anti-bullying themes for future efforts. Suggested ideas include:

·  conflict resolution

·  self-esteem development

·  reducing school violence

·  safe schools efforts

·  individuals are encouraged to send ideas to dykstra@idaschools.org

d.     Develop a framework for poster contests at the elementary, middle school and high school.

e.     Investigate possible training for students and staff for next school year.

f.      Investigate donations to be used for positive behavior support efforts.

g.     Publicize and invite community members, parents and others to our next meeting on April 16, 2013 at 6 PM in the High School Media Center.

h.     Publicize minutes on the district web and blog site.

6.     Held general roundtable discussion

7.      Determined the next meeting will be on April 16, 2013 at 6 PM in the High School Media Center.
