HIGHLIGHTS FROM
THE BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING
May 13, 2013
Jill
Loughney plans to retire at the end of the school year. She has had a fantastic
career throughout her 21 years of service to Ida. The students, staff and
community will miss her. Please let her know that we wish her an enjoyable
retirement.
Kelly
Woelmer and Ann Crosby will be taking a leave of absence for the 2013-14 school
year.
Koa
Yntema has resigned from her teaching position.
The
Board of Education approved the purchase of a new K-5 math program titled
Pearson Envision. The teaching staff will participate in professional
development activities to support the math program in June.
Mr.
Morelli highlighted the achievements of our top students in drafting, welding
and metals classes. Six students placed in the regional MITES competition
including: Kody Hawley, Kyle Buchler,
Nathan Segar, Derek Hinkelman, Josh Bastian and Cameron Goins. Additionally
Cameron Goins and Logan Asher finished first and second in the Home Builders
Association blueprint competition. The homes that they designed will be built
by Habitat For Humanity. Johnny Koch, Travis Lindquist and Andy Woelmer
represented Ida at the welding competition at Ferris State University. They
represented Ida with skill and class!
The
Non-Homestead Millage Renewal passed with flying colors. 470 residents voted in
favor of the renewal while 77 voted against.
The
Board of Education selected The Rehmann Group to conduct our yearly financial
audit for the next three years. They provided the lowest bid for the service.
Millennium
Driving Academy was selected as the exclusive provider of driver’s training
instruction on our campus. They have been providing excellent service to our
students for the past 10 years. The possess an excellent safety record and
great reputation in the community.
The
Safety Committee and the Anti-Bullying Committee provided reports to the Board
of Education which are available on our district website.
Once
approved, the meeting minutes are posted on the district web-site at
www.idaschools.org.
